Understanding Through Pictures 1000 Kanji

Learning kanji may seem overwhelming, regardless of your skill level with the Japanese language; however, your kanji studies don’t have to be a chore. This workbook uses fun illustrations and phrases to help you make associations and remember the shape and nature of each kanji character. 

The 1000 kanji in this book are divided into levels of the JLPT (N2-N5), and you will learn the correct stroke order for each Japanese character, as well as its meaning, kunyomi and onyomi readings, plus examples of words and idioms using the kanji that will allow you to boost your vocabulary at the same time. You will also practice writing the kanji in the empty boxes and gauge your learning with the quiz found at the end of each chapter. 

 

Structure

• A short phrase and illustration to help you remember (For example, the kanji for hayai, meaning “early” or “quick,” is written with the kanji for “sun” resting on a cross shape. The phrase in the book reads, “The sun appears from the horizon in the early morning.”)
